The Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, serve as a road map for
all of us to achieve a better and more sustainable future. It is a proposal
supported by all United Nations member nations, and it has pushed the deadline
out to 2015. The United Nations, or U.N., is an intergovernmental organization
whose mission is to maintain international safety, peace, and security, to
foster healthy and friendly relationships between people from different
countries, to serve as a focal point for harmonizing national actions, and to
achieve international cooperation. Since I have studied in this course, I have
acknowledged that our quality of education nowadays especially in Malaysia
dropped dramatically due to the pandemic Covid-19 plus most people in our
country do not bear in mind about their role on how to create sustainable
development in our life. Speaking for myself, the best way for students to have
a higher level of quality in education is by joining the educational program
from outside and applying in daily life.
During last semester, I
participated in an educational programmed organized by the student association
in my previous University. It was my first time to join this program because
before this I was not taking this issue as a serious issue to highlight on.
After that, when I learned about this kind of Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) , I realized that we cannot 100% depend on the government to increase
quality education. All the community has to contribute without having any
perspective linked with gender issues. The objectives of the program are to
spread awareness for the young generation about the importance of education in
our life. This program provided a lot of activities such as ice breaking,
motivation talk by a professional speaker and some sport activities.
In this program we faced
a problem due to lack of funds to provide educational tools and foods to give
to participants. But it does not end here, we are trying to find a solution by
soliciting donations from other Non-Government Organizations (NGO) to raise our
funds. Things went smoothly as the Non-Government Organizations (NGO) agreed to
cooperate with us. As we planned, the program ran great when we got an amazing
response from students who mentioned that they enjoyed being in this program
because there’s no limitation in order to join the program and everyone is free
to speak up any idea without any gap between opposite gender. Indirectly, we
can gain new experience and add our knowledge by joining this program.
In conclusion, through
this program, we gained a variety of knowledge and I realized thatin terms of fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it started from our dearest self to keep our new
generation in a good quality of educationcomparable to global standards by
also emphasizing gender equality without missing the importance of good health
and our well-beingrelated to a few Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This
program taught me to be more sensitive about the problem faced by our society
especially in educational field as Nelson Mandela once said “education is the
greatest weapon that we can usein
changing the world”.
